old photo

filed under this writer's mind

Watching television coverage of what's going on in New Orleans certainly brings things into perspective. And then today I ran across this old photo, which also makes me stop and think and be thankful.

This is my daughter, age one, reading to me. We are very fortunate people, and we are aware of that.

Sara, I thank you for the links about New Orleans that you have posted. I am still making my way through them. I'm really upset at it all and my heart goes out to the communities of New Orleans and Mississippi. I also feel your anxiety about the books and buildings in New Orleans. I have always wanted to go to New Orleans and if I never went anywhere else in the US but there, I think I would be happy. So I'm kind of sad that if I ever did get there, that maybe I may not be able to see many of the historic buildings as they once existed. But at the end of the day, they are just buildings and what will keep New Orleans alive are its people, its culture, its languages. God bless.

PS. I see the new header and I love it.

Yes.....I do it on a regular basis but during these past few days I have kissed my children as much as possible. In Florida you have mixed feelings because you are relieved that the hurricane missed you this time but are deeply sad that it went on to smash someone else's house. You walk around with the uneasy feeling that your turn might be next. I am sad first for the people and am also deeply sad for the lost books and art.
