oh, and: syndication stuff

filed under technobabble

to carry on in the same technobabble vein:

I have had quite a few people ask me why this weblog isn't available as an RSS feed. If you don't know what that is, and you don't care, please carry on without me.

I have tried, at various times, to make the rss feed work. I just spent another highly frustrating half hour, without success. I have tried just using the built in movable type syndication feature; I have tried Feed Burner. Without success. I have looked at the great tutorials at Learning Movable Type, and I now have the url of an extended entry at Feed Burner explaining (maybe) what has gone wrong and what I need to do. But really what I need to do is write, so I'm going to forget all about rss feeds and syndication and all that other great stuff, and go write. When I have some words down, I may feel strong enough to take another run at this. Or maybe not.

I am pretty good at technology, for the most part, but I declare myself officially cowed in this particular matter.

I've been reading your blog via its RSS feed for months. Can't imagine why others have problems doing so- it's always worked fine for me. I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my feed reader, and am using the following address:

Same here, only I use the Mac version of NewsNetWire, and at work I use something for PCs that I snagged from versiontracker that's a freeware. Neither's ever given me any hassles.

I syndicated your blog at livejournal which uses your rss feed. It's also at Bloglines.

so color me confused. When I try to set up syndication through feedburner I get this error message:

Sorry

Ditto here. Your feed is an Atom feed instead of RSS and it's: http://www.tiedtothetracks.com/storytelling/atom.xml

Jorie--went over to bloglines to have a look, and I'm wondering why I never thought to check it out before, because that is a seriously good thing. I just wasted a whole hour setting it up for my viewing pleasure.

But I'm still wondering why one of the three syndication types I have available to me isn't working. Not that it's really important. It just bugs me.

Oops! Didn't realize it was using atom. Sorry.

Bloglines is good, though occasionally posts get stuck in some kind of lag time. Not too seriously though.

http://www.tiedtothetracks.com/storytelling/index.rdf also works, and is how I've been reading you for months. (God love NetNewsWire.)
