while you're waiting
So I am thinking about writing conflict but mostly these last few days I'm just thinking about writing in general, because right now it feels pretty draining and I wonder if I can keep it up. I think about Dorothy Dunnet who produced, what? -- ten or more big fat, well researched, beautifully written historical novels between age fifty something and her death at seventy something. Is there a second wind coming? There's certainly a birthday on the horizon. I'll be forty-nine on Friday.
Thirty-nine hit me harder than forty; forty-nine isn't coming easy, either.
How's that for all kinds of conflict?
So I will try to put down some organized thoughts about writing confrontation scenes, look for them right here, hopefully tomorrow.

Forty-nine!! I wish!! Thirty was hard for me - no kids yet. But, let me tell you, 60 was the pits! Only people older than dirt are that old! Luckily my daughters tell me that I don't look or act that old.
Happy birthday in advance. Hmmm - lots of chocolate helps.

I'm with asdfg -- chocolate helps. :) I found 40 to be a really big, nasty bump in the road because I'd promised myself I'd have a book published by then, and on the eve of my 40th birthday, I had to face the failure of one of my life goals. But after I got over that bump, it didn't seem so bad.
Happy birthday when it comes -- may this year be a golden one for you.

Yes, happy birthday, and if you're looking to mainline some serious chocolate, try Lindt's 85% cocoa bars. I am "casein- and gluten-sensitive" (which means no more pizza -- waaah!) but these chocolate bars do not intentionally include milk.
I try not to think about birthdays any more. In fact, I've decided I don't even really care about getting published any more (because after that you have to worry about the book selling, and who needs it?). I'm just glad to be writing.
Hopefully they'll find me slumped over a keyboard and working on my 1,000th page when I go, and then I'll be posthumously famous and turn into a legend ;-)

It must be something with the month of January that produces exceptional writers. My two favorite authors have their birthdays three days apart (Diana Gabaldon's birthday was the 11th as you probably already know)!
Do something just for yourself and have a wonderful Birthday!
